Stop the Insanity!

Self-Care

Inflammation is a necessary part of life, especially within the inner workings of our body. When working as it should in the body, it boosts healing from injury or illness and supports health.
However, there is an epidemic of inflammation gone awry in many Americans due to food choices. The effects of this inflammation on our health cannot continue to be ignored. Choices that decrease excessive inflammation in the body MUST be a priority in everyone’s health and cannot be negated by a prescription medication.
Excessive inflammation in the body is being extensively researched and has been connected to the following diseases: Obesity, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Cancer, Dementia, Arthritis, ADHD, Autism, Chronic Infections, Depression and several others.
So, what can YOU do to stave off these diseases? What choices can YOU make to enable your best health? Study after study has shown that the foods we eat will either promote health and healing or lead to disease and inflammation.
Foods to Eat and PROMOTE health:
Vegetables, all kinds and a great variety in color (Eat some greens every day!)
Fruits, especially berries
Whole Grains, including brown rice, quinoa, soba noodles
Aromatics such as ginger and garlic
Lots of spices to experiment with in your cooking, such as turmeric, curry, cumin….
Beans, lentils, and peas
Root vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, parsnips, and potatoes
Water
Foods to Avoid or Decrease that LEAD TO DISEASE:
Fried Foods
Meats, especially cured and processed
Dairy; including yogurt, milk, cheese and ice cream (Substitute nut milks, such as soy and almond)
Sugar, Soda, and Artificial Sweeteners
Highly processed and packaged foods
Margarine

Refined Carbohydrates (most of the fiber removed)
This may sound like Greek, something crazy or foreign, to many of you. Consider though, what is your health worth to you?
Our health is a compilation of the choices we make EVERY day. We CAN own our story of health, starting today. It requires us to think outside of our norms and explore alternative ways of doing things. EAT TO LIVE; fully living to our potential, instead of living to eat. As Albert Einstein said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.”
Let’s all encourage one another as we each decide to OWN OUR HEALTH.
